Thank god this didn't hit the back window.
I was using a 2" or 3" rope with a clevis on each end.
I was attached to my bumper, the other end was through a hole in a frame rail of a late 90's jimmy.
The clevis ripped through his frame, and voila!
Dented my tube bumper,
Destroyed the tail gate skin,
Dented above the tail light,
Broke rear side window,
Folded side mirror forward on its hinge, but didn't break it.

Considering myself very lucky on this one.

I am not sure a better strap would have stopped the clevis from ripping through the Jimmys' frame??

I would have to agree, the strap didn't break, neither did the clevis.

We had a similar situation earlier this year. Front tow hook on a dodge broke right in half while snapping the truck out of a hole. Broken hook and strap fired back at the other truck and blew a hole right through the license plate.
Lucky it didn't do any sheet metal damage, let alone go flying through the window.
