i want to paint the frame of my landcruiser.. i dont know which way to go.. i hear crappy things off and on about por 15 and dont know if its worth the expense..
or do i go with rustolium black paint?? something different?? i dont know..
everything is ground back down to shiney metal on my frame and i dont know which direction to go.. i am not looking for something too fancy but a step above a can of black tremclad would be something that i would go for.. probably something i could either apply with a paint brush/roller or shultz gun...
i also searched and found this...

id just brush on some gloss black. im always changing something or rubbing the paint off. so just rattle can what comes off or what ever you modded to match the rest of the frame.
por15 is for show trucks. might as well powder coat your frame if you just going to do it once... lol _________________

ahh, screw the por15.. it will not work on what i am doing.. from the 20 links i just checked out it looks like its not really made to go on clean smooth surfaces... the frame on my truck is now pretty clean and very smooth.. it does have sanding disc marks from the 60 grit flapper discs that i have been using but i guess this product works better when there is still some corrosion and rough spots on the frame.. otherwise i guess it peels off in sheets apparently...
oh, and walkers autobody in town here carries it if anyone is looking for it..
another product i saw was Zerorust... its supposed to be a more forgiving version of por and much easir to work with.. dont know who carries it though..
i think i might just go with the rustolium and paint it on.. it what we use are work and seems to work for at least for a few years.. i dunno.. _________________ "If you need a tool and don't buy it, you will ultimately find that you have paid for it but don't have it". -Henry Ford

I carry the zero rust line at work.
I've spray bombed my wheels with it, and it's holding up amazing after 3-4 years.
I'll be cleaning up and painting the back half of my frame in the near future too, and i think i'm going to spray it with endura. _________________ Devin

I have used "chassis paint" from Walkers. It was about $50 a gallon, you spray it on (no mixing) with a paint gun straight from the can. Works awesome, is a semi-gloss black, and is super durable. _________________ Clay wrote:

May be a little late to respond to this. BUT Gregs also carries zero rust and it's cheaper than what dev sells it for at ABS. _________________ 85 4Runner (lurch)

thanks guys.. if you had looked at my project Rankenstein build you will see that i have already painted most of my frame.. i went with a super nice two part epoxy primer with 3 coats of semi gloss rustoleum over top of that...
it came out looking super great and i recomend going this way... very very happy.. _________________ "If you need a tool and don't buy it, you will ultimately find that you have paid for it but don't have it". -Henry Ford

Yep I use that stuff on underbody braces I build that have gone everywhere...never heard a complaint. The undercoat spray at CTire is more durable but basically it never dries and only becomes non-sticky when it's dirty. Undercoat smells like tar, however the rockerguard paint smells like solvent and dries quickly and works really well. I'm using the rockerguard paint for my roof rack, more durable than paint and looks really good. _________________ Conrad Andres
