Use a Firefox plugin called "DownloadHelper".

Simple and easy.

Keepvid.com, I think saves in .flv

VLC media player is great.

If you run anything with Linux there is a great powerful and easy program called Videmux or something along those lines that will do your conversions or strip audio/video.

Use VLC as suggested. Use Handbrake to convert anything to anything.

Also, Download Helper has addons to convert to different formats, but some you must pay for.

Do you want to strip and keep the audio or keep the video? If just removing the audio, yeah, WMM does that.

This is the program I use to get my music now. I make a youtube playlist and then convert them when I get time. There is a similar program for videos as well I just can't remember it off the top of my head.
