I'm 48"x30"

We have a 48"x96" at the farm.

I love my size. Just big enough I am almost never needing more room but not too big that it becomes a pile on.

Conrad, maybe you could PM me price for a piece of 3/8 marked for holes? What is the hole spacing on your bench? 6"? What is the most convenient size for a benchtop? What is the best size in terms of utilizing the material wisely (i.e., is it more economical to get a 4x8 sheet of 3/8 and cut it into thirds?)

I buy everything as 4'x8' sheets and crop them in half. I do tons of 3/8" so I only charge by the sqft of material used, even if there is a little strip around the perimeter that is scrap, that's fine. The max. my table can do is 46.5"x46.5", I like to leave a small buffer so 46"x46" is reasonable. This will allow for a nice clean plasma cut edge all the way around the table with nice radiused corners (if you wanted).

My welding table is 30"x46", the base is 22"x38". So it allows a nice lip for clamping around the perimeter if I don't use any of the holes for fixturing. The holes are every 4", it worked out by keeping the frame centered between the outside perimeter holes. My table is great for sitting up to and welding, it sucks for general assembly with nuts and bolts because I always manage to have them fall through the holes. Laughing So it's incentive to keep the assembly/greasy work off the welding table and only use it for welding.

If I had more room the only regret I would have is not making it bigger. Oh and not engraving a ruler along the outside edge...damn!

Radiused corners and 6 rows of slots cut in the middle for fixturing.

Most table tops in 3/8" are in the $300-400 range, just depends on overall size, type/number of slots etc... Kevin's measures out at 32"x46" and weighs in at 150lbs.

I still have another sheet of 3/8" 4'x4' material in the shop. Wink
