i purchased a trailgear or marlin (cant remember) front axle rebuild kit. bearings for the steering knuckle that came out were the the same top and bottom on the drivers side, and a different pair for the passenger side. pass side had not been rebuilt in a long time, or ever. drivers side had been rebuilt. after putting the cups and cones in for the bearings, my shims do not allow for proper spacing to center the knuckle on the axle housing. (2 bearings are the same, and 2 are different that came in the new kit). i did not know which bearings went in which side. is there a specific side for the bearings? did i make a mistake in not marking which orientation they came out? or do i need to find proper shims for spacing? if so, where would my best chance of getting material? i took the old shims out and marked them, so i have not mixed up where they go.

I thought both sides were the same?
I will look at my extra kits and see if I have two different bearings.

all king pin bearings are the same on the truck. (But i have seen different mfg of those bearings and different tapers) There should be no difference left to right.

Make sure the race is seated all the way.

the bearings were the same size, to my eyes.. i did not measure with a caliper. the batteries were dead. should i look around for a shim pack then? or could i use .030 plastic shim stock to get what i need for spacing?

I would not use plastic. is it the big knuckle or the small?

I have a lot of the small spacers...i think.
