Thanks for the link. Those tires are HUGE! I actually prefer the XML or Xl pattern over the zxl.

I emailed the guy to see if he has any 12.5r20 xl.

so I have been day dreaming under my truck since Ben came over last week and since I got Rory to snag me a bit of DOM for the driveshafts....

I have a complete donor truck for a 5spd swap. I like the idea of going to a 5spd with toybox (if they ever make them again!) or I can steal Scooby's toybox if I had too. It would be nice not to have the power loss (the auto eats about 20%) and the ability to have more gear options. And I miss the down shift for braking...

BUT, I have been looking at new super duper turbos as well and with those that I have talked to tell me not to change out the auto until I have the turbo to liven up the engine. I LOVE the auto. It shifts great, is EASY to drive. You just mash and go. It's never let me down. And it's stout. I would argue stronger then the H55F.

What would you do?

I would do the turbo first, then if your still not happy do the 5spd swap. Everyone that has installed one of the gturbos seems to rave about it. I had my wife on board with upgrading to the bad boy but that was before the trans went.

ya, I think that's the way I am headed. Get the 5spd rebuilt and find a reduction box for it and if the needs arise throw it in.

gturbo is looking more and more like a good option, expensive, but good.

Expencive! What isn't now a days! Atleast it sounds like it would make a night and day differance.

Manual is nice on the road but a bit of a pain off of it, even with lower gears. Do you have an upgraded vb in your transmission now?

yup. i have the extreme VB now and run transynd synth with a cooller.

offroad it is really nice, i would like a little lower gearing and the AA gear set would give me that at the same cost as a crawler box (but it's only 3:1) not like a 4:1 doubler.

i am a super big fan of standards for offroad because i love the use of engine braking but it your case it doesnt make sense at the moment.. plus you seem to be busy when not working on your truck so there is no point in doing anything too crazy that will keep your truck down for even longer yet..

i say turbo for sure... its a bolt in and its a quick upgrade with big results and your toybox from Scooby wont work anyways with a 5 speed.. not without some big changes internally.. i wish i could sell you a toybox but i think i need to hold onto it for a bit till i see replacement parts from marlin crawler again just in case..

i wish there was more info about the black box from nwo.. although the gearing wont be what you want so it really doesnt matter..

Theoretically, a diesel engine offers zero engine braking unless there's a butterfly valve in the intake or a restriction in the exhaust (exhaust brake or turbo to a lesser extent). There is some friction braking, but how much will depend on the engine and transmission.

I vote the turbo too. Save the tranny and toy box for next winter.

I sent Rodney and email to see about an upgrade TC as well today.

The 12H-t and the 3b/13b-t have great engine breaking, for that matter so do the 1hd-ts. you just need it to rev to 3500rpm... when it can't go any faster you slow down... Shocked

i think it's turbo time with billet torque converter!

input gear needs changing on the toybox right? to a different spline?
